HUMMING was a project that came about after going on a trip to Japan, specifically Kyoto and Osaka. The idea was to capture daily life in those cities in a way that highlighted the drama, noise, and movement. Inspired a lot by the photos of Daido Moriyama and Shunjo DODO.

Despite how busy and perhaps chaotic these cities might appear, it is more calm than you might think. There is a lot of foot traffic and people in general, but it’s all very quiet. When you get, even just a couple streets, away form main strips and malls, you instantly are filled with a whisper. All of a sudden you are focusing on the buildings, the homes, and the little family shops. You get to understand just how slow and relaxed day to day life is for a lot of the population here. This way of life is where the title came from. The idea that the city is busy and full of life, but somehow the noise levels are low and calm, HUMMING.

Below are just a few photos from the 120 page book.
